How to Count Pages for Coil Books

Your PDF should already contain every page, including the covers, in the order it should print.
We don’t add, reorder or personalize anything — the file you upload is exactly what gets bound. New to this? Switch on Show above for examples.

  • Counted Pages How many pages are in your PDF, including your cover and any blank pages — not the sheets of paper it will print on.
  • Sheets How many physical sheets your Counted Pages actually print on — two pages per sheet if printing on both sides or one page per sheet if printing on front side only. We work this out for you and show it before you order.
  • Quantity How many complete, identical books you want.

IMPORTANT: When printing on both sides AND your cover is part of the same file as your inside pages.

When printing on both sides your first two pages become the outside and inside of your front cover, and your last two pages become the inside and outside of your back cover.

If you want the inside of your covers to be blank, you MUST include the blank pages in the PDF — immediately after page 1, and again immediately before the last page. It doesn’t appear blank on its own. You must also count them toward your Counted Pages total above.

This 8-page file is a 6-page book with a cover — pages 1–2 and 7–8 are the cover, front and back.

Counted Pages are not Sheets

A 5 Counted Page book (inside pages only, cover uploaded separately) printed on both sides uses 3 sheets of paper — two sheets hold four pages, and the fifth page leaves the back of the last sheet blank. Enter the Counted Pages; we work out the Sheets and show you the count before you order.

Blank pages still count

This file is 10 pages, not 8. A blank page is still a page — it still takes up a side of paper, so it still counts, whether it’s an inside blank or the inside of a cover.

The number you enter should match your PDF’s real page count exactly.

Counting the quantity you need

Quantity multiplies the whole book, so if every book is identical, you just need the number of books you want — your PDF only ever holds one copy of the content.

        Will I receive a proof of my order?
        Due to our fast turnaround-time we do not provide either PDF proofs or physical proofs by default. It is the customer's responsibility to make sure their artwork is read to go prior to printing. We print jobs as quickly as possible. This means if your job is next up in the queue, it can sometimes get printed very quickly. We recommend placing smaller test orders before placing a larger order to ensure that you are comfortable with the process. We do not issue refunds on orders due to color or proofing issues.
        How do I know my colors will come out right?
        Unfortunately, the nature of digital printing (toner and paper vs. ink) means that colors are inherently unpredictable. This is compounded by the fact that everyone's individual computer monitors are calibrated differently depending on the brand. For that reason we can't offer color guarantees on any printed products.
